King and Prince Receives Honorarium from Georgia General Assembly

Michael Johnson, Director/General Manager of the historic King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort (St. Simons Island, Georgia), accepts an honorarium from the Georgia House of Representatives from Mr. Alex Atwood at the annual Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce CEO Reception held April 30, 2014. The Honorarium was prompted and implemented by Representative Atwood and Representative Joe Wilkinson of Sandy Springs Georgia.

Rep. Atwood (R) from St. Simons Island represents District 179 in the Georgia House of Representatives which encompasses parts of Glynn County including Brunswick, Jekyll Island and St Simons Island. He read the Proclamation to the assembly of Chamber members in the Hotel’s oceanfront Solarium, a part of the historic building (circa 1935).

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort, a prestigious  landmark of St. Simons Island, Georgia, on its continual display of excellent  accommodations and customer service; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort was founded in 1935 and serves as  a historic landmark that has been impressing guests of St. Simons Island for nearly 80 years;

WHEREAS, this esteemed resort serves thousands of guests as an icon located on St. Simons Island, one of the legendary coastal Georgia Golden Isles; and

WHEREAS, the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort exemplifies outstanding customer service, impeccable amenities and accommodations, and quality food and beverage service;

WHEREAS, as a landmark retreat on a coastal island haven, the resort is often highly praised by travel writers when describing the remarkable allure of this corner of the Georgia coast to their readers; and

WHEREAS, various accommodations of the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort include ocean front and resort view guest rooms, seaside cabanas, luxurious two- and three-bedroom  beach villas, and luxurious guest houses; and

WHEREAS, the historic King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort is an independent, family owned, full-service resort; and

WHEREAS, the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort was operated by the United States  Navy from 1942 to 1947 as an active radar school and station; and

WHEREAS, over the last three years, the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort has invested  more than $7 million in its pool complex, function rooms, including the historic Delegal Room, Lobby and Atrium, and a brand new dining area offering ECHO Oceanfront Food and Drink; and

WHEREAS, the King and Prince Golf Course was designed by legendary golf course architect Joe Lee; and

WHEREAS, the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort is the preferred resort location for hundreds of fans every year for the classic Georgia versus Florida game; and

WHEREAS, this prestigious resort has been honored with Convention South’s Prestigious Award for Top New or Renovated Meeting Sites, the Successful Meetings’ Pinnacle Award for multiple years, Meetings’ Focus “Best of the South,” Conventions South’s “Readers Choice,” and Smart Meetings’ “Platinum Award;” and

WHEREAS, GolfDigest reported that the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort has ranked  number five in America’s top 20 “Best Buddies – Trip Destinations”; and

WHEREAS, the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort is the 2011, 2012, and 2013 Winner of the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, an honor awarded to properties that consistently receive excellent ratings and reviews from TripAdvisor members.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort for its outstanding customer service and impeccable accommodations and extend their best wishes for its continued future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort.
