Unemployment Filing Details

When filing for unemployment, the Inn was officially closed on October 1, 2024. You should use this date as the Date-of -Separation. [Please note that separation is a technical term used by North Carolina unemployment and all team members who were on the payroll as of September 27th are still employed. We hope to get you back to the Inn soon!]
To qualify for unemployment, your reported wages from 10-1-2023 to 6-30-2024 must be at least $7,531. Your unemployment benefit (the amount you receive from the state) will be based on the wages earned from 1-01-2024 through 6-30-2024 divided by 52. If you didn’t have reported wages in this timeframe, see the last bullet in this post.
If you wish to work AND collect unemployment, your weekly earnings cannot exceed 20% of your unemployment benefit. For example, if your benefit is $200 a week, you cannot earn more than $40 per week. Once you know what your benefit calculation would be, we can see how we schedule folks to maximize pay for you.

A Few Extra Details:
-
The most you can currently receive in state unemployment benefits is $350 per week for up to 12 weeks.
-
The length and amount of the benefit is determined once a claim is filed.
-
Once regular unemployment has ended, Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) would come into effect. DUA pays $154 a week for up to 26 weeks.
-
Team members who do not qualify for unemployment may still qualify for Disaster Unemployment Assistance.
How to File an Unemployment Claim
The fastest and most efficient way to file a new claim is to file online. If you don't have access to a computer, you may file over the phone by calling 1-888-737-0259.
A Message From Micajah
Now and then, I am reminded of the complexity of this place called Earth and every living thing that walks on it. Think about the age of the parts of the human machine … working continuously for years as man-made equipment wears out all around us. Consider the intricate balance and reliance of animals and plants in certain environments … relying on each other despite having any sense of how important a part they play. We live in a fragile world!
The scale of Hurricane Helene’s damage will take quite some time to understand fully, but, you know firsthand its impact. When I spoke with a Coty on Saturday night, he explained the situation “as if South Florida had a blizzard. [They] just weren’t prepared for anything like this.”
I am grateful to know that you are okay. I am heartbroken to understand that this isn’t the case for every single MMI team member, their family, neighbors and friends.
I found this quote from Fred Rogers especially fitting:
“Human relationships are primary in all of living.
When the gusty winds blow and shake our lives, if we know that people care about us, we may bend with the wind …
but we won’t break.”
We are praying for you and working to provide some sense of normalcy for you….if even just a bit. We will be back when we can share more. In the meantime, it is important to remember that each and every one of you are valued, appreciated, respected, and important.
Prayerfully,
Micajah
